Ana Ivanovic survives Vera Dushevina at US Open
Top seed Ana Ivanovic scored an unconvincing victory over Vera Dushevina of Russia in the first round of the US Open.
The Serb looked as if on a way to an easy and quick victory when leading 6-1 4-2 and 0-30 on the Dushevina serve, but in the end Ivanovic earned her spot in the second round after surviving a scare and playing three sets to eventually win 6-1 4-6 6-4.
BTW: Ivanovic is not wearing the dress we thought she would, so luckily she differs from Caroline Wozniacki (not much, frankly, but still…). Anyway, it's so funny, she's wearing the same outfit to the one she replaced her Wimbledon dress with (phew, in different color though!) — and remember that her Wimbledon dress was the white version of the dress she was supposed to wear at the US Open. Almost embarrassing! (photo: Getty Images)

Caroline Wozniacki working Ana Ivanovic’s dress and shoes at US Open
Not only is Ana Ivanovic’s adidas outfit nothing special considering she’s number one in the world, not only is it the same outfit she wore at Wimbledon and abandoned it after one day, but at the US Open Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki worked it before Ivanovic.
Ok, the shoes are unique, the Barricade V Summer Slams with Ivanovic's face, but there is something bizarre, Pilot Pen champion Wozniacki wore those same shoes in her first-round match at the US Open when she defeated Asha Rolle 6-2 6-1. Hahaha, what a mess!
Ivanovic starts her US Open campaign on Tuesday at 11am local time, and then we'll finally see whether she'll wear something else, which is more than welcome. (via Forty Deuce)

Seeds Anna Chakvetadze, Maria Kirilenko, Shahar Peer fall on US Open day one

Three seeds fell on the first day of the 2008 US Open: Russians Anna Chakvetadze and Maria Kirilenko, and Shahar Peer of Israel.
Chakvetadze, seeded tenth, suffered her earliest Grand Slam defeat in more than three years falling 1-6 6-2 6-3 to compatriot Ekaterina Makarova, ranked 56th in the world. Chakvetadze took the opening set in 25 minutes and looked to be on a good way to victory, but in the end she became a first-round loser.
No.22 seed Kirilenko lost to Tamira Paszek of Austria 6-3 3-6 6-4 and this year’s result is her worst at the US Open, before she reached second or third round.
Peer, seed No.24, got eliminated by China’s Li Na 2-6 6-0 6-1 despite superb play in the opening set. "In the first set I felt like I was playing against a wall," said Li after her great turnaround. (photos: Getty Images)

Serena Williams’ Nike dress for 2008 US Open

World number three Serena Williams will be wearing this dark red Nike dress at the US Open, the Grand Slam she won two times, in 1999 and 2002.
The outfit called Serena Day Dress looks nice, but is too uninventive for a player on a way to Grand Slam number nine. However, talking about too ordinary dresses, Ana Ivanovic is the leader.
Serena Williams will start her US Open campaign with a first-round match against world number 46 Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine. (via Down the Line)
